MIDDLETON, Idaho — The Idaho Trucking Association brought their new simulation training program to Middleton High School on Wednesday, the first of many stops planned for Idaho schools.
The ITA would like to thank Governor Little for participating and helping launch the program.
Have you ever imagined what it is like to drive a semi truck down the freeway? How does it feel? How do you stop a rolling beast?
Curious Middleton High School students, along with Idaho Governor Brad Little and some staff members can describe that feeling.
Thanks to Allen Hodges, president and CEO of the Idaho Trucking Association, the semi-truck simulator was debuted in Middleton for the day. The visit launches a statewide campaign to recruit younger drivers to the trucking industry.
Right now, Idaho is short about 5,000 drivers and the nation needs about 80,000 to keep commerce moving along the interstate.
A new trial training program would allow 18-year-olds to cross state lines.
