Truck Driving Championships 2023:

Idaho's Truck Driving Championships were held May 5th & 6th, 2023.

The Championships are composed of 3 competitions:

  1. Written Exam

All states require TDC competitors to take a multiple choice exam that tests their general knowledge about trucking and understanding of safe driving rules, first-aid and fire fighting. The exam includes a broad array of questions that are based on the information in the 2023 Facts for Drivers book. This book is available on the ATA Business Solutions website.

  2. Pre-Trip Inspection

The Pre-Trip Inspection is based on the procedure that drivers should conduct every day. Bring your own tools needed, none will be provided for you.

  3. Driving the Course

Truckers maneuver courses resembling a slow-speed rodeo to show their skills. Can you snake a 73-foot semi backward between two tennis balls with just four inches of clearance on both sides? Can you back a trailer into a dock and get within an inch of it without hitting it?

The Championships are a great incentive for professional truck drivers to operate safely, because they must be accident-free for at least one year prior to the competition.

Drivers compete in one of the equipment categories. The categories are:

  • Straight Truck
  • Three-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
  • Four-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
  • Five-Axle Tractor-Semitrailer
  • Sleeper Berth
  • Tank Truck
  • Flat Bed
  • Twin Trailers
  • Step Van

To be eligible drivers must:

  • Remain accident free, regardless of fault, for one year prior to NTDC. (August 15, 2022)
  • Be based in Idaho and in a driving position with their current employer since August 15, 2022.
  • Have the proper license endorsement for the class of participation chosen.

If you would like to be placed on our TDC mailing list, please send an email to office@idtrucking.org and just put "TDC List" in the heading. We will send emails regarding the schedule, news or results of the Truck Driving Championships.
